PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma), also known as the Vampire Facial, is a non-surgical treatment for skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing available at Medical Cosmetics in Nottingham. This advanced procedure combines micro-needling with your own blood plasma to naturally stimulate skin repair and regeneration.

The plasma, rich in platelets, promotes tissue healing, speeds up cell renewal, and enhances your skin’s ability to repair itself. When microneedled into the treatment area, the platelet-rich plasma boosts collagen production, improves volume, and creates smoother, brighter, and healthier-looking skin. It’s a safe and effective way to achieve a youthful, refreshed complexion.

We normally recommend that your PRP (Vampire Facial) consists of a series of three procedures with approximately 4 weeks between them. However in some cases such as acne scarring it may require further procedures.

We use topical anaesthetic to numb the skin, making the procedure comfortable. The topical anaesthetic normally takes up to 30 minutes to work and 30 – 40 minutes to complete the procedure.

Then, a small amount of blood will be drawn from your body (usually from your arm). This blood sample is then set into a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from other blood components. This plasma is applied to the skin or the treatment area via microneedling to stimulate skin repair.

The microneedling medical device produces thousands of micro-medical needle-columns in the skin. Each column will penetrate into the dermis of the skin.

After the PRP treatment, your body will start to naturally regenerate and repair the skin, working below the surface in the dermis. This takes time as new collagen is formed, new skin cells are generated, and blood supply is enhanced. It can take up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen, and the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural and long-lasting enhancement.

Immediately after your PRP Vampire Facial, you will look like you have moderate sunburn, and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. This will start to subside after one to two hours and will usually recover within the same day with only slight redness the following day.

It is recommended to have 2–3 PRP treatments for the face, spaced 6–8 weeks apart. The results of PRP rejuvenation are long-lasting, with many patients opting for a touch-up treatment after one year to further boost collagen production and maintain facial rejuvenation.
