FAQ’s

At Medical Cosmetics, we offer a wide range of chemical skin peels, offering our clients a gentler, more effective alternative to physical exfoliation. Skin peels are a non-invasive treatment which use non-toxic chemicals such as salicylic acid to exfoliate the skin, remove dead cells, and leave behind a fresh, soft, smooth surface.

A good chemical skin peel will typically use salicylic acid or alpha or beta hydroxy acid which is applied directly to the skin. The acid works in a similar way to physical exfoliants such as abrasive cleansers but they do not rub, pull, or drag the skin making them a more gentle solution for resurfacing. Skin peel treatments are most commonly used on the face and neck area, but can also be used for hands and feet.

Here at Medical Cosmetics we are trained to deliver a wide range of chemical skin peels to suit a variety of skin types:

Obagi Blue Peel Radiance

This is a mild to moderate-strength peel often recommended for aging skin or dull and tired skin. It provides a powerful boost to the complexion and results in a tighter, smoother, and more glowing appearance with a fresh, youthful look.

Alumier Radiant 20/10 Peel

This is one of the mildest chemical skin peels and is suitable for many different types of skin. It uses both alpha (AHA) and beta (BHA) hydroxy acids to rejuvenate tired looking skin, minimise large pores, target acne and acne scarring.

Alumier Radiant 30 Peel

This is a stronger alternative to the Alumier 20/10 peel, using alpha hydroxy acid and lactic acid. It is an excellent choice for aging skin, and for those struggling to tackle sun-related
hyperpigmentation, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne.

Alumier Glow

This is a moderate depth skin peel that works best for dull, tired looking skin as it creates a smoother, brighter appearance. It is one of the more intense resurfacing peels, tackling hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and removing dead skin cells.

ENERPEEL® peels minimise surface trauma which can cause reddening, frosting, peeling and increased downtime, but maximises the activity in the skin to promote improved skin structure and function.

Enerpeel® Salicylic Acid

Designed to break down oil and surface debris in acneic skins, while also introducing the three key ingredients to control inflammation, kill bacteria, reduce oil production and normalise excess skin cell production.

Enerpeel® Mandelic Acid

Designed for the management of rosacea, thread veins, hyper pigmentation, reactive skin, broken capillaries and is ideal for peeling throughout the summer months and for those with sensitive skin.

Enerpeel® Pyruvic Acid

Controls oily skin, reduces pore size and can be used for anti-ageing, photo ageing, loose skin and mild actinic keratosis. This EnerPeel can also be used on the chest and neck.

Enerpeel® Jessners

Lactic acid component for reducing non inflammatory pigmentation, oil control, moderate actinic keratosis, moderate to severe photo-ageing.

Enerpeel® TCA 25%

For anti-ageing, sun damage, moderate to severe photo-ageing, severe hyper-pigmentation, severe scars and raised scars.

At our clinic our experienced practitioners will cleanse and prepare the skin
following a full consultation to ensure the right peel is selected for your skin type and your own particular concerns. Once prepared, the correct acid solution will be applied directly to your skin and allowed to absorb. Once fully absorbed, a post-peel cream which includes SPF will be applied. This is to protect the skin following the treatment. A skin peel treatment does not hurt, but you may experience a warm, tingling sensation when the solution is applied to the skin. Deeper peels may create slight redness, and over the following days it is not unusual to notice a small amount of peeling as the acids get to work. Mild depth peels typically have no side effects. As a non-invasive treatment, you can continue with everyday tasks/activities immediately.
As the skin may be more sensitive than normal following a chemical skin peel in Nottingham, it is advised to use SPF 30 or above every day in the treatment area for at least 7 days following the procedure and avoid direct exposure to the sun. It is also important not to irritate the skin, so be sure to use gentle, hydrating products only and stay away from both chemical and physical exfoliants which may cause redness.
When performed by an experienced practitioner, skin peels are very safe. However, they are not recommended for anyone who has used topical acids or had hair removal treatments in the last 7 days as these treatments can make the skin more sensitive.
Please let us know if you are using acne medications or have used these medications in the
past, if you have undertaken radiation therapy, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have cold
sores in the treatment area. We may advise alternative skin care treatments.
Some of the effects of a skin peel may be permanent while others will typically last for 1-2 years depending on the strength of the peel treatment and each patient’s own post-peel skin care routine. For best results, regular treatments are recommended.
